Why do they call it blind dating if it isn't?

People sitting and randomly telling to a number of people about their background. How blind is it unless they are lying about it? Is it an excursus for communication training or an indirect marketing tactic. After all any first date is blind.

One could live their whole life and not know who the person is. People change like seasons, as soon as a new circumstance occurs a new character develops. How people respond during those circumstances pretty much depicts who they are. My question is why bother getting to know the other if one is blind to their own actions? He who hath no sin casts the first stone.
